Who we are
Nicholas Memorial Centre for Mental Health & De-Addiction (NMCMD) is a psychiatric and de-addiction centre on the CSS Campus at Poovanpuzha, Kavanad, in the north of Kollam city. The centre is led by Dr. Nicholas Christy, MBBS, D.P.M., R.C.P.&S. (Ireland), F.I.P.S., Consultant Neuro Psychiatrist and Hypnotherapist (Eire).
We treat alcohol and drug dependence and the full range of mental illness, from depression and anxiety to psychosis. The centre is open 24 hours, because a crisis does not wait for office hours.
The name
The centre carries the name Nicholas Memorial. It stands on the campus of the Christian Service Society (CSS), whose work in Kollam includes care for people with addiction and other illnesses.
A teaching centre
Nursing students from schools and colleges across Kollam district do their psychiatry clinical posting with Dr. Nicholas Christy. Batches have trained with him since at least 2009, first at Ferns Medical Centre, Kollam-12, and now at NMCMD. See the gallery.
